If you have a truck you like, particularly a new one, nothing is likely to irritate you more than scratching up the bed when hauling a load. Naturally the solution is a bedliner, but the hard plastic drop-in ones usually do more damage to the paint than not having a liner at all. Plus their slippery surface makes it a chore to keep cargo from sliding around. The spray-on liners grew in popularity recently but never quite made sense to us - why paint over a perfectly good paint job? Besides many enthusiasts want to install the bed liner themselves, not drop it off to potentially have it come back with rubberized overspray.

Fortunately a new style of bedliner has been developed by Wise Industries that eliminates all the downsides of the alternatives. The BedRug offers a soft, yet surprisingly durable, bed lining. Made from plastic polymer fiber bonded to closed-cell foam. It is impervious to solvents, oils, water and other fluids. The material is nearly 1" thick and supports the heaviest loads without deforming or tearing. We pulled a motor and hauled it around without any issue.

The BedRug ships rolled up in a box and via standard carriers. This isn't possible with a drop-in plastic bed liner. The BedRug is available for just about every Ford truck and bed length. Starting at just $319

The BedRug consists of two sections; the floor and tailgate piece and the sides. These two pieces zip together to form one sealed unit.

A heavy duty zipper is stitched into the underside of both pieces. Also note the stitched in Velcro™ loop strips. The BedRug is held to the truck bed with super strong Velcro™.

The plastic foam backing is nearly one-inch thick and wont scratch the paint. The molded ribs fit the contour of the bed floor which results in a flat and comfortable surface.

We began the installation by turning over both pieces and zipping them together.

With the unit zipped up we are ready to pre-attach some of the Velcro™ strips.

The BedRug kit comes with several long and short lengths of adhesive-backed hook fasteners. The instructions specify for exact placement to ensure the BedRug is secured properly in the truck bed.

Attach the two 36" long hook sections to the sewn-in loop strips on the underside of floor piece. Do not remove the adhesive backing.

Attach one of the supplied long sections of hook strip to the bulkhead section of the the BedRug.

The bed should be washed clean beforehand. We used rubbing alcohol to wipe down the contact points where the adhesive strips will locate.

Remove the cargo tie-downs prior to installing the BedRug. Install the bolts back in a few threads so they are easy to locate once the BedRug is in place.

The BedRug is light and easy to handle by one person. Simply position it into place. This is very easy due to the pre-moulded contours.

Before we can secure the BedRug down we need to attach the supplied 2" Velcro strips. Starting at the bulkhead apply the strips to the pre-sewn loop section. Space them evenly as shown.

Beginning at the front of the bed we peel the lower bulkhead adhesive backing off the Velcro.

Work the sections firmly against the walls to ensure good adhesion.

With the bulkhead attached lift up the floor section and pull of the backing tape. We climbed in the bed to stick the BedRug against the floor.

Attach the remaining 2" strips along the side walls and work your way to the tailgate.

The final Velcro backing is pulled off the tailgate piece and the section affixed into place.

The last step is to locate the tie-down screws we left in from the previous step. You can simply feel for them but we've pulled the BedRug back to give you a visual cue.

One you find the tie-down screw, use a razor blade to cut across the head of the screw. Push the mat around the head and the screw will pop through the cut.

Finish the super-clean installation by removing the Torx headed screws and reinstalling the tie-down brackets.

The BedRug makes the truck look very high class, yet it is very rugged and durable. We hauled a motor around for two days and simply washed away the spilled coolant and oil.

We review and install a unique style of bedliner, the BedRug by Wise Industries. This soft bedliner offers rugged, no-slip, durability yet a soft comfortable surface. We're installing it in our new 2006 Ford F150 truck.

Can it get wet?

At first glance the BedRug appears to be suited for a dry environment, under a shell or cover. In fact the BedRug is completely impervious to liquids. The plastic fiber surface can be pressure washed clean.

Water, solvents, and oils wont damage or become absorbed by the closed-cell foam backing.
