Return to the CA Tips
CA Express and the IFS
The Express client is more secure than the older client. You need to do
two things:
1. Start NETSERVER. You can do this through OpsNav by opening up the
tcp/ip servers under network.
2. Set up file shares through the file system branch in OpsNav.
This may require your AS/400 and network userid and password to be the
same, can't remember for sure.
It's more work than before, but you can control who can access what in a
variety of ways and prevent things like people inadvertently deleting
production files through Windows Explorer.
-----------------------------------------------------------
To map to the IFS (or QDLS, etc), you must have NetServer running.
_Client Access Express for Windows - Setup V4R4_ (SC41-5507-00), pages 29-30 has
these details.
After NetServer is running, you must use Operations Navigator to create
"shares" for people to view. (At least this is how I did it.)
You should have installed all OpsNav components when you installed CAE.
Go into OpsNav, then your AS/400, then File Systems.
Right click on File Shares (under File Systems), then Open AS/400 NetServer.
Click on AS/400 Netserver (in the new window) if it's not open, then Shared Objects.
All users running CAE have the opportunity to map to these shares.
From here, you can create a share: Right click on SHared Objects, then New, then File.
In my example, I created a share name (no quote marks on any of these values) called "AS400HTML",
with description "AS/400 HTML documents", path name was "/home/httpd/"
(where I have directories html, cgi-bin, images, etc.)
Another way to create shares is to go under Integrated File System, navigate
your way to the directory to share (/home/httpd), then right click on that
directory, then Sharing, then New share. Some stuff is filled in already.
