Dial-up Networking Through the ECS Line
You need a modem that can handle SYNC for ECS, and ASYNCH for PPP.
The 7852-400 modem that IBM has been supplying with recent AS/400s will do both.
You need to set a dip-switch (12 from memory) to choose the mode.
Configure a PPP line on the same resource as the ECS line (currently you need to use OpsNav to this).
Vary the new PPP line on and make sure it is active (use WRKTCPPTP -- make sure you have *IOSYSCFG authority) then dial-in from your OS of choice.
This configuration works because I have done it here and was surprisingly easy.

Simon Coulter.
