Roadmap for enabling i solutions on i 6.1 from Michael J Sandberg
Roadmap for enabling i solutions on i 6.1 --> http://www.ibm.com/partnerworld/wps/roadmap/i5os/v6r1/enable Fastpath: Enabling your IBM i solution on IBM i 6.1. 1. Learn what IBM i 6.1 has to offer: Why should I move to IBM i 6.1? - http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/enable/site/education/ibp/13DC2/ The purpose of this course is to provide you with a summary of the functional enhancements to i5/OS V6R1, as well as the related support for this powerful release. 2. Utilize IBM Resources to validate your solution on IBM i 6.1: Virtual Loaner Program - www.ibm.com/systems/vlp Imagine on demand remote access to IBM servers running the latest versions of operating system with access to IBM software, all available to you at no charge. With IBM Virtual Loaner Program, you have that and more! IBM Innovation Centers for Business Partners - www.ibm.com/partnerworld/iic/ These world-wide Innovation Centers provide Business Partners with on-site and remote access to a complete IBM Systems environment including hardware software, and dedicated IBM technical skills to help them port, migrate, test and optimize their applications for an on demand world. 3. Let IBM and your customers know that you are supporting IBM i 6.1: Maximize your exposure in the Global Solutions. - www.ibm.com/isv/marketing/gsd_howto.html DirectoryOne of the best ways to provide worldwide visibility for your solutions is to ensure they are entered in the Global Solutions Directory (GSD), IBM's primary online directory of Business Partner applications, tools and services. Don't Get Stuck: ISVs can submit questions regarding IBM i 6.1 by sending an e-mail to iaic(at)@us.ibm(dot)com ISV Messages and References: i 6.1 Value Proposition: Improved system integrity, performance and exploitation of new processor capabilities Support for regulatory requirements with encryption of backups and data on disk A high availability solution from IBM through the High Availability Solutions Manager for the i operating system Improved performance for Java and WebSphere applications on i Virtualization enhancements that support virtual i partitions, reducing costs to create test and development environments Enhanced performance for i environments that connect to IBM System Storage solutions Support for IBM Systems Director, delivering a comprehensive tool to manage IBM systems i on a blade, enabling consolidation of i and Intel servers with BladeCenter technology Other considerations for i 6.1 adoption: With i 6.1, IBM exploits the capabilities of the Machine Interface (MI) architecture to significantly improve programs. All programs created for previous releases must undergo an automatic conversion to run on i 6.1., With almost 900 applications already supported on i 6.1, this conversion has been going quite smoothly. However, ISVs should understand the implications of the conversion since it may require some pre-V5R1 programs to be recompiled. And, in rare instances, it may require some source code changes. Detailed information is covered in this redbook: i5/OS Program Conversion: Getting Ready for i5/OS V6R1 http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redpieces/abstracts/redp4293.html?Open i 6.1 URLs: Info on i 6.1 value proposition, features and program conversion --> www.ibm.com/systems/i/os/i5os/v6r1 Roadmap for enabling i solutions on i 6.1 --> http://www.ibm.com/partnerworld/wps/roadmap/i5os/v6r1/enable Online education " Why should I move to IBM i5/OS V6R1--> http://www.ibm.com/servers/enable/site/education/ibp/13DC2/ Other i info including Power6, Blades, High Availability, .... --> www.ibm.com/systems/i/news/ Resources for i 6.1 enablement help: (info also available in the i 6.1 roadmap mentioned above) IBM Innovation Centers The IBM Innovation Centers have trained resources available to help ISVs upgrade their solutions at no cost. ISVs can leverage the IIC's help either by going onsite to one of the centers or by accessing them through a secure remote connection. Steps to schedule an engagement with the IICs: www.ibm.com/partnerworld/iic resources tab "request assistance now" "request an engagement" need PW ID and password select a location and continue to complete form IBM Virtual Loaner Program If the ISV just needs hardware and software access to perform their i 6.1 validation, the self-service Virtual Loaner Program (VLP) is another no cost option. The ISV can get an overview of the VLP program and sign up for remote access to a i 6.1 partition on either Power5 or Power6 hardware from this site --> http://www-304.ibm.com/jct09002c/partnerworld/wps/pub/systems/vlp Questions?
