ABSTRACT:
In today's organizations, there are a number of issues that are impacting the jobs of data managers and professionals. First, data is now accessed on an enterprise level, no longer siloed within applications or specific departments. In addition, the database management systems that are used to manage this information have grown increasingly complex, requiring multi-disciplinary teams that can address their various requirements - end-to-end performance, security, data quality, multiple databases, and applications.

Over the past year, the leading activities in database management, selected by two out of three respondents, entailed overseeing an upgrade of their current database environment and improving or maintaining database performance.
